The supply chain of our wheat

From the field, the wheat: where it all begins

What makes La Molisana a special pasta is its over 100-year history, its integrated supply chain, and the pristine territory in which it operates, Molise, where nature offers unparalleled conditions for pasta production.

For us, who manage the entire supply chain, this is an essential prerequisite. While Mother Nature guarantees the first, providing pure water from the Matese Park, which springs at 1,850 meters above sea level, perfect for making pasta, we at La Molisana guarantee the second element: wheat, from which our semolina is derived, because we truly worship it. Sourcing the best raw materials isn’t something you can improvise; you need to know the market and reliable suppliers well. Over four generations, the Ferro family has built expertise and credibility in selecting the finest varieties of durum wheat, certified and traceable.

Contribution to Agenda 2030

2. ZERO HUNGER

Target 2.4

By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, help conserve ecosystems, strengthen the capacity to adapt to climate change, extreme weather, drought, floods and other disasters, and progressively improve soil and soil quality.

8. DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Target 8.4

Progressively improve global resource efficiency in consumption and production in an effort to decouple economic growth from environmental degradation, in accordance with the 10-year framework of programmes on sustainable consumption and production, with developed countries taking the lead.

8. DECENT WORK AND ECONOMIC GROWTH

Target 8.8

Protect labour rights and promote a safe and secure working environment for all workers, including migrant workers, in particular women migrants, and those in precarious employment.

The "Grano Maestà"

Improve the competitiveness and economic sustainability of agricultural producers, encourage the development of indigenous products to reduce imports from abroad, enhance the innovative nature of agricultural activities, and promote higher product quality and greater environmental sustainability through the use of decision-support technologies.

These are the main objectives of the “His Majesty the Wheat” project involving La Molisana. The latter, together with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti and Intesa Sanpaolo, has finalized a new supply chain contract established by the Ministry of Agriculture, worth over €9 million, to support the growth and development of four companies in the La Molisana grain supply chain operating in Molise and Puglia.

The “His Majesty the Wheat” project therefore involves the creation of a dedicated high-end durum wheat supply chain that achieves high-quality and incremental production, while ensuring maximum traceability and food safety, and ensuring specific protein and nutritional characteristics.
